Hi Kathleen – “Dahli” (we changed the spelling because she is calm like the Dahli Lama) is doing very well!!! She and our Sheltie, “Dover”, play and nap together. They have compatible temperaments. Our 4 kids – all college age – love Dahli. Thank you! Sarah

Dreyfuss

Dreyfuss was confiscated with 42 other Pyrenees from a single home in Geneseo, IL, on February 14, 2006. He lives in Fox Lake, Illinois, with his five children and (human) Mom & Dad. Life is exciting and entertaining for this good boy as he watches his new family grow up around him! Plus he has a high school baseball field at the back of his fenced yard, and cheers (barks) when area boys and girls hit a home run! :o)

July 2006 Update:

I am very sorry about not getting this to you sooner, but my dad has been battling colon cancer for the past year. Three weeks ago they found a spot on his liver, and he required many tests and surgery at Loyola Hospital. So I have spent a lot of time at home with my kids and nephews. Druifus got quite spoiled — spending all day outside in the yard playing.

Toby

Toby was formerly known as Baby Ghost. He was confiscated with 42 other Pyrenees from a single home in Geneseo, IL, on February 14, 2006.

Toby is doing FANTASTIC. It is difficult to remember our family without him. He and our female smooth collie, Belle, are best friends. They love to romp and play together. She often cleans his teeth and his ears for him.

Toby has earned himself several nicknames. Jason calls him Houdini, because he has the ability to be in one place one second, and then without a sound be in a completely different place the next minute. It is kind of amazing that such a big dog can be so quick and so silent when he wants to be. We also call him destructo-dog. Don't worry, he hasn't destroyed anything of worth but he manages to get into stuff on a regular basis. (I know, we need to give him a job or something to focus his energy on. We're working on it.) He loves plastic bags, plastic bottles, and cardboard boxes. He can tear the stuffing out of a toy in the blink of an eye. On Sunday, he kept grabbing the entire Sunday paper and carrying it around the house. He wanted the bag the paper was in. Silly, silly.

Speaking of silly, I also call him Clown because of his ability to make us laugh. He can entertain himself with no problems, throwing toys for himself and jumping up to get them, racing around the house, sitting on our picnic table, making himself at home on our ottoman (I didn't think he would fit!)... I could go on and on.

He's not putting weight on very fast. He's only eating about 3 cups a day, even though we try to give him twice that. He's getting better about noises. He's still skittish about some things, but his recovery time is getting quicker.

UPDATE:

We’ve had Toby nearly two months, and we couldn’t love him more. Toby came to us from Chicago Pyr Rescue. He has a split personality — either Toby the couch potato (literally) or Toby the clown. Now that he knows he will always come back to his forever home, he loves riding in the car. Toby really enjoys chasing his collie friend, Belle, around the house. When she won’t play, he amuses himself quite well. He will throw his toys into the air and catch them. We are more than half way through training. Toby is doing great, although we have seen that Pyrenees stubbornness. He only lays down when he wants to. Toby gets nervous around unfamiliar noises, but he is getting a little more brave each day. Thanks so much for the opportunity to add such a fabulous dog to our family.

Lilly

Lilly was confiscated with 42 other Pyrenees from a single home in Geneseo, IL, on February 14, 2006.

Imagine living in a house with 41 other Great Pyrenees and then coming to a home with your own fenced yard and special room. To say Lilly was over whelmed would be an understatement. Her tail was between her legs and she still had her old house potty habits. But a remarkable thing happened — her new adopted baby brother Augie showed up on the scene 1 week later and started teaching her how to be a puppy.

It was not long before they were both romping through the yard and going on walks. Now even before their evening meal they are at the door sitting and ready to go.They quickly became part of the family and enjoy sleeping in on rainy days and playing all day long. Augie has adopted his dad's recliner as his. They go in their crates when asked, and both completed obedience class with honors. Augie(Augie-dochius) was number one and is now doing fantastic in his second class. He is quite the little prankster, and likes to tease Lilly with a chew toy to chase him which she does, and then they reverse roles and Augie is chasing Lilly to get it back. She says it is great to be a "puppy."

The beautiful thing is how much love they give back. Lilly continues to be shy with strangers and a little stand-offish, but with her family she has certainly earned her title of "Silly Lilly," and they both are wonderful additions to our family, and now we know why we missed Paws, our 13-year-old big boy Pyr, so much.

Thanks!
John

Connor

From Connor's adoptive family:

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that Connor is doing good. Tuesday he was pretty nervous when we got to the house and he didn't eat much. In the evening though, he began to get comfortable, sitting on the couch with me, watching the Cubs game. He's since got his appetite back and we haven't had any problems. He's very well trained. I included two photos of him on the couch that he likes to lay on while I'm working. So, he seems to be adjusting normally. Thanks again.

Baby Ghost

Baby Ghost has been adopted. He likes the Pyr Play House – see picture! (We also heard he is a real Mama’s Boy!) Baby Ghost was confiscated with 42 other Pyrenees from a single home in Geneseo, IL, on February 14, 2006.

Dove

Dove, at 10 years young, found her forever home with Gene, Donna, and the tribe (including Pyr alum Pauly and Ruby Ribs.) Dove is coming out of her shell more and more each day. She enjoys playing with the other doggies, but is somewhat reserved with humans. Dove was confiscated with 42 other Pyrenees from a single home in Geneseo, IL, on February 14, 2006.

Mickey

Emmy Sue

Dear Great Pyrenees Rescue,

Hi, this Is Emmy Sue. I thought I would let you all know how I am doing. Well, the foster family that Miss Kathleen put me with, well they are just a HOOT. I have a new sister and brother named Sam and Cindy, and they are Great Pyrenees. I love Cindy — she and I go running and playing all day. Sam is use to me now. We play in Donna's office, and we all nap while Donna is working.

The man and lady, Randy and Donna, are great. Randy was home because of surgery to his feet, and was in bed for about two weeks. Donna said that Randy followed the doctor's orders very WELL. So when I came, Randy had his surgery, and me and Sam and Cindy kept a eye on him while Donna was running around. I really love Randy and I know he loves me — he just doesn’t say it.

We had Thanksgiving at the house; I got to meet all kinds of family and grandma's dog, Angel. I just love people. Donna said that I have to go for obedience training, and then all of us are going for training to be therapy dogs, which is where we get to meet more people and love them. I am exited about meeting the people, but not the training. Donna and Randy have been training me. I get on the bed — I just don’t get off of it. I get on the step for my leash when we go for rides. And we get treats when we go to the bank!! I LOVE RIDES!!!!

I am sending you a picture of me and my sister and bother. Sam is in the back seat, and Cindy is driving, and I am giving directions to Cindy. Thank you Miss Kathleen for my new home. I am truly loved here.

Eternally grateful,
Emmy Sue

Cuba

Cuba has adjusted wonderfully to life at his new forever home. We can't believe how lucky we are to have found him. He is unbelievably lovable and sweet, and has an enormous personality. We have nicknamed him "Crazy legs" because when he's really excited and wants to play, he runs throughout the backyard, legs flying everywhere (that includes the big tongue flapping about as well). He enjoys running through the mountain of leaves my husband builds every afternoon, and dispersing the leaves all over the yard once again. We also have discovered that a king-size bed is not nearly enough room for two adults and one adult-sized Pyr — Crazy legs likes to take up as much space as possible, and stretch to accommodate wonderful belly rubs. Hopefully, in the future we'll be able to adopt a friend for Cuba; he really loves to play with other dogs. Again, we can't believe how lucky we are to have him in our lives.

Brian & Kathleen.

Cindy

Our little Cindynow has a new home and a new name (Grace). She's also has new "brother" named Bip. Success story to follow soon.
